AACL has developed a unique food security solution which combines an investment in quality agricultural land and investment into annual grain production. A shortfall agreement with a major commodity group can also be attached to the combined investment.
Amongst a broad range of agricultural commodities, Australia is a leading supplier of grain to the world.
On average Australia:
- Exports in excess of 50% of its total food production.
- Is one of the top 5 wheat exporting nations, representing 10% - 15% of world trade. The Australian wheat crop covers 12.5 – 13.5 million hectares and annual production is approximately 20 - 25 million tonnes. Two thirds or approximately 13 million tonnes is exported.
- Is one of the top 3 barley exporting nations, representing 18% - 20% of world trade. As with wheat, approximately two thirds of the annual crop is exported.
Australia's position is achieved due to the country’s vast and varied farming locations (over twenty three million hectares), the use of world leading technology, the existence of world leading infrastructure and the high level of skill of its farmers.
From a food security perspective, the important issue is where grain can be accessed and at what cost in times of need.
Given Australia's large surpluses and proximity to Asia and the Middle East, Australia is a secure, cost effective grain sourcing destination.
From an investment perspective, Australia provides a number of significant advantages:
- The grain industry is a sophisticated, mature industry.
- Australian farming is highly efficient.
- Australian grain is universally recognised for its quality.
- Established transport and export infrastructure exists.
- Australia offers a stable political, legal and financial system.
- Australia operates a secure and transparent land title system.
- Australia is a reliable and export driven food producer.
